45 Second Brownies
A while back, before I was watching everything that I put in my mouth, I heard a friend telling how she was addicted to the “warm delights” by Betty Crocker. These are essentially a little brownie in a bowl that you make in the microwave. They are delicious. But the price tag is a bit of a deterrent, being about 1.59 – 1.99 each. So, in an attempt to save a buck, I googled “microwave brownie” and got a plethora of answers to my brownie question.
After several attempts, all be it, yummy attempts, I came to the conclusion that there are a few tweeks that help make a good microwave brownie. Here’s a few tips:
- Use a shallow bowl, the brownie cooks faster and doesn’t leave a liquid in the bottom. Unless you’re into that, then a deeper bowl for you.
- The best ratio of brownie mix to water (in my opinion) is 2:1. So 2 Tablespoons of mix to 1 Tablespoon of water. I very often use 4 tablespoons of mix and 2 Tablespoons of water.
- If you are mixing in extra good things, I have found that chocolate chips will sink to the bottom, as well as nuts and caramel. To help this, I have found that I can microwave the brownie for about 25 seconds then add my mix ins and microwave it about 20 – 25 seconds longer. My favorite mix in is pecan chunks and coconut.
- When you are done, put your bowl in the sink and fill it with water. The cooked on brownie is like concrete when it sets up. I made the mistake of leaving an empty bowl by my bed over night, I like to never got it clean.
- Teach your “microwave usable” kids how to do this and you instantly become mom of the year. 🙂
Happy brownie eating!
